Wedding layout

Today I had some time to male a layout. It is a photo from my cousins wedding. It is not very big, since it is from a thank you note we got. The size of the photo is one of the things that is important to determand before you start your layout.

Here is the photo and some paper I pulled from my stash. Since it is a small photo, I wanted to go for a simple and clean look. The colors are chosen to match my cousins buket. So, the size of the photo is important, but another important thing is weight. In the following I will be talking about weight and balance in the layout. First of all, I mattet the photo and the green paper with black, so create some strong lines.

I had a general idea in my head, of what lines I wanted my layout to have, but before I decided on anything, I had to find out the weight in my photo. As almost all wedding photos, the woman is in white or another light color, and the man is in black or dark. Dark colors is heavier than lighter colors, so by the nature of the photo, his side is heavier than her side. Underneath I wanted a green piece of paper, which is also dark and therefore heavy. So in the photos below, I want to show you, what differents determenting and placing of weight, can have on the balance of you piece.

Here I have placed the photo on the right of the green paper, which is on the left of the light blue background. The green paper ads weight to the layout, since dark is heavy. And the blue background is light in weight. So when we look across the middle of the layout, we get a weight line that looks like this: - heavy - light - heavy - light (-dark green-white-black-light blue) Her har jeg placeret billede til højre på det grønne papir, som er til venstre på den lyseblå baggrund.

Here I change the placing of photo and dark paper. So the order of weight in the layout looks like this: - light - light - heavy - heavy (-light blue-white-black-dark green)

I choose to go with the all light on the left, and all heavy on the reght, as you see right above here. I did so, because I felt the layout seemed more balanced. It seemed that way to me, since we read from the left to the right. That automatically makes the left side of a page more valueable. So the heavy colors on the right, balancemit. I hope it makes sence... Very hard to explain....

Adding red color to compliment the colors in my cousins buket. And to help lead your eye in the direction I want..

The finished the layout!! Very simple, to keep focus on the beautiful couple. Thanks for watching..
